LEGO® Town

As a child of the 90s and early 2000s, I constructed LEGO® towns of official LEGO® sets and my own creative custom creations. These were built on various baseplates and road baseplates, of limited space, and limited parts. Each town had a police station and a fire station. Custom buildings, such as residential and commercial, were also built. A Mayor's house was also included.
Baseplates & road baseplates
Official LEGO® sets from this time period usually came on baseplates and/or road baseplates. These baseplates allowed you to build your structures onto their flat surfaces.
The baseplates and road baseplates came in different varities and sizes, allowing you to quickly lay the very foundations for your very own LEGO® town. The road baseplates came on a 32 x 32 area.
The baseplates of 16 x 16 or 16 x 32 were probably some of the best baseplates for concerving precious space. These gave you enough room to build most things, such as houses or shops. Sometimes vehicle parking space may have been required.
Buildings - official LEGO® sets
LEGO® Fire Station 7240 was released in 2004. This set had an area of 16 x 32, which helped preserve precious space. The fire station provided a lot of playability and enjoyment throughout childhood, but the set was somewhat lacking. The set only had a fire car and no actual fire truck.
LEGO® Police Station 7237 was released in 2005. This set had a much bigger area of 32 x 48, on a raised baseplate. The raised baseplate lifted the station off the floor, which helped with playability. The station came with many play features, but it took up a large foundation.
LEGO® Century Skyway 6597 was released in 1994. This was a retired Classic Town airport set when I first bought it from Moons Toymaster. It was very exciting to get as a child, but it took up a very large foundation, consisting of various baseplates. Whilst I had a lot of enjoymenet from it, it may have not been the best purchase decission.
LEGO® Hospital 7892 was released in 2006. This set had a much bigger area of 32 x 48, on a raised baseplate. I mainly got the hospital because I thought every town or city needs a medical facility, but I do not recall playing much with it as a child. It was more of a house for injured minifigures.
LEGO® Service Station 7993 was released in 2007. The petrol station (gas station) had a 32 x 32 roadplate, and a 8 x 16 baseplate. This building was usually placed on the outskirts of a town. As a child, I never really had great interest in service stations, though.
My LEGO® collection had parts which were second-hand and brand new. I believe I had the parts and road baseplate for the LEGO® set Police Command Base 6386, released in 1986, of the Classic Town range. I may of had parts for additional little sets, too.
Buildings - custom creations
The joy of LEGO® was building your very own creations! Having interest in towns, I would build suitable buildings. Some buildings included a Mayor's house, residential, and commercial. Occasionally, I would build something unique, such as a bank, or musuem. I was limited when it came to parts, though.
Vechicles - official LEGO® sets
The official vechicle sets tended to be the cheapest to buy, so I bought many different vechicles over the years to fit into my town. I probably bought too many vechicles though, or vechicles which were not suitable with the environment. In reflection, better purchase decisions could have been made.
Most of my LEGO® vehicle sets were of the LEGO® City theme. I had some LEGO® World City which I found interesting, but this theme was quickly discontinued. I was late discovering LEGO® Adventurers and their two-seater vehicle sets.
